As a reminder, there is no school for students April 15-18. Students will return on Tuesday, April 19.

As we close in on the end of the school year and having only utilized one inclement weather day to date – we potentially have a contract day to reduce. Over the past eight years our school calendar has been developed and adopted to include two days at the beginning of the school year for teacher work days. These days count as contract days and are designed to compensate for inclement weather days within the calendar.

Should the District not utilize any additional contract days for inclement weather an adjustment will be made to the end of the year calendar by one day and conclude with our last student day on May 19 and a teacher work day on May 20.

Fremont Public Schools Bond Issue

Bond Issue Update

Fremont, Neb. – (Mar. 24, 2022)  Fremont Public Schools continues to move forward with plans for the $123 million bond issue that was passed by citizens in September 2021. FPS meets with the BVH Design Team weekly, updating the Board of Education monthly, and updating the Board of Education Facilities Committee monthly.

High School / CTE Project Update:

The schematic design submittals for both the High School Renovation and CTE project has been completed and Hausmann Construction is currently pulling together initial pricing estimate costs for the proposed work. The initial test wells for the proposed geothermal system have been drilled at the High School campus and are currently being analyzed.  Also, a request for proposals for geotechnical services has been sent out with that work anticipated to start late March/Early April.   Meetings and discussions with staff will continue to take place during the design development phase through June. The design work is on schedule and will continue through October with the early site construction beginning once school is out in May 2022.

Washington, Howard, and Clarmar Elementary Project Update:

Design and coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and architectural systems is ongoing. Further work under development is occurring related to the exterior design and key interior spaces such as commons and the media center. Development of options for the new Clarmar site have been evaluated and it is being adjusted with feedback from FPS and the site owner.

Milliken Park Elementary Project Update:

The Design Development document package has been completed with input from FPS representatives, and the next round of budget confirmation is currently in process. The initial test wells for the proposed geothermal system have been drilled at Milliken Park and are currently being analyzed. Refinement of scope, details, and building systems continues through finalization of the Construction Document package. Design work will continue in preparation for bidding in the Spring of 2022.

Lenihan Learning Center Project Update:

Design Development document package is being finalized along with budget and scope confirmation.  Refinement of scope, details, and building systems will continue through finalization of the Construction Document package. Design work will continue in preparation for bidding in the Spring 2022.

Bell Field Elementary Project Update:

The Design Team and FPS are working on a bid package to repair roof areas that have been leaking. The roof repair package will go out to bid this spring. Program, scope and budget verification work is in progress in preparation for design work to begin for the interior work in the Spring 2022.

Linden Elementary Project Update:

Site Survey proposal requests will be issued in March in preparation for the design work which is scheduled to begin in Spring/Summer 2022.

Johnson Crossing Academic Center Project Update:

Site Survey work has been completed. Design work is scheduled to begin in Spring/Summer 2022.

Bond Funding Update:

Fremont Public Schools working with DA Davidson issued $92 million of the $123 million the voters approved last September on March 17.  Due to the favorable bond market and the confirmation of the District’s A+ bond rating the bonds were sold at a 3.31% interest rate.  The bond proceeds will be forwarded to the school district on March 31.  The remaining bonds will be sold at a later date.

“We continue to move forward with our bond planning process. We are excited to begin work this summer when school is out,” stated superintendent Mark Shepard. “Taking advantage of the favorable bond market was key in being able to accomplish the projects outlined when the voters gave their approval last fall,” Shepard concluded..

Fremont Public Schools Implements Safe2Help

Fremont, Neb. – (Mar. 16, 2022) As part of Fremont Public Schools’ commitment to students’ safety and mental health, beginning March 21 we are launching an anonymous reporting program, which will allow students and parents to make anonymous reports about concerns of safety or student wellness. Our program is student-focused, as opposed to crime-focused, meaning it is a tool for alerting caring adults about students who need help—not snitching. This is part of our continuous effort to increase campus and student safety, and provide students with a safe, completely anonymous outlet to share concerns.

Students can use our new Safe2HelpNE app to report: bullying, suicide concerns, depression, sexting, stealing, threats, cutting, abuse, dating and domestic violence, fights, drugs, alcohol, weapons or other types of dangerous situations that threaten the safety of others. Their reports will be addressed by a trained school threat assessment team.

When you or your student have a concern, you can go to www.safe2helpne.org on your computer, tablet, or laptop– or you can download the free Safe2HelpNE mobile app– and make a 100% anonymous report in less than five minutes.

The use of anonymous reporting apps in state programs like Safe2Tell Colorado have proven to be successful in providing the tools and information needed for school officials and to proactively address concerning behaviors, potential incidents of violence, and other harmful situations on campus before they develop. We look forward to working with students and parents to continue making Fremont Public Schools a safe school.
