Fremont, Neb. – (Apr. 29, 2022) Fremont Public Schools released information today related to:

 

  1. The number of students and staff absent due to testing positive for COVID-19.  
  2. The number of students and staff in quarantine due to close contact exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
  3. COVID-19 vaccine availability.

 

The breakdown of district COVID numbers is as follows:

 

Number of Students not in school today due to Positive COVID-19 Test: 4

Number of Students not in school today due to quarantine for exposure: 4

Total number of students absent today for any illness: 111

 

Number of employees not working today due to Positive COVID-19 Test: 0

Number of employees not working today due to quarantine for exposure: 0

Number of certified teaching staff not at work today for any reason: 84

 

Important reminders include:

  • STAY HOME if you are sick.
  • STAY HOME if you have not been fever free for 24 hours without medication.

As we close in on the end of the school year and having only utilized one inclement weather day to date – we potentially have a contract day to reduce. Over the past eight years our school calendar has been developed and adopted to include two days at the beginning of the school year for teacher work days. These days count as contract days and are designed to compensate for inclement weather days within the calendar.

 

Should the District not utilize any additional contract days for inclement weather an adjustment will be made to the end of the year calendar by one day and conclude with our last student day on May 19 and a teacher work day on May 20.

Fremont Public Schools & Metropolitan Community College Students Sign With Employers

Fremont, Neb. – (Apr. 22, 2022) Fremont Public Schools is pleased to announce the signing of four Fremont High School seniors with local industry partners. These students will work part-time while taking classes at Metropolitan Community College or Southeast Community College and graduate with a full-time job. “This is a great example of the partnership between Fremont Public Schools, community colleges and local industry to meet our students’ needs,” said Todd Hansen, executive director, student services at MCC.

 

Damon Jordan

Damon Jordan signed with Sid Dillon as an automotive employee. He will be taking MCC classes and will graduate debt-free and continue his career with Sid Dillon. Damon said, “I’m thankful Dillons has begun working with me to get ahead and experience in the workforce.” Damon’s mother, Charlene Jordan stated that she “is really glad this kind of opportunity for students is being recognized.” Josh Brandt, service manager at Sid Dillon Chevrolet, expressed the importance of teaching Jordan and other students that the car business isn’t just for selling or fixing cars, there is much more to it, such as marketing and finance. 

 

Samuel Wulf

Samuel Wulf signed with Lozier as a tool and die apprentice. Lozier is proud to be a part of this partnership and make a difference in students’ lives. “Sponsorships are an important part of our business to help industry students get started. We will provide two years of tuition, tools and a part-time job for Sam,” said Linn Kroeger, tool and die manager at Lozier. Wulf’s parents, Jennifer and Aaron, said they are “thankful for this unique opportunity for Sam and other students who are on their way to gaining mentors in their respective fields.” Kroeger, a Fremont High School graduate, stated “these types of partnerships benefit the students and their families while strengthening the workforce.” 

 

Henry Hiebenthal

Henry Hiebenthal, Nebraska State SkillsUSA Champion Welder, signed with Platte Valley Equipment in the JDTech Program. Jeremy Vrana, career development lead at the dealer stated that this sponsorship helps students learn the whole gamut of Platte Valley Equipment’s business; sales, marketing, accounting and repairs. Hiebenthal stated, “I am thankful for this sponsorship with Platte Valley to complete my training without acquiring debt and the multiple career opportunities this represents moving forward.”

 

Jonathan LaDay

Jonathan LaDay signed with Platte Valley Equipment as a diesel technician in the JDTech Program. LaDay will also learn all aspects of Platte Valley’s business. LaDay said, “I’m thankful for this opportunity and to Todd Hansen for helping me find the right business sponsorship for my future.” Laura LaDay, Jonathan’s mother, expressed her thanks and appreciation as well, “We are thankful for Todd and MCC’s help guiding Jonathan towards a career path he is excited about.”

 

This partnership is a great example of collaboration between schools and community. “Our community businesses are giving life-changing opportunities to these students and these are not the only companies that offer this type of opportunity. Our community employers see the talent that our young people possess and want to work to build on their skills,” said Mark Williams, director of counseling at Fremont High School. Hansen said, “Business and industry education sponsorships are getting more popular. Employers are making an investment on the front-end to recruit students to develop and expand their business.” We look forward to future partnerships with our community businesses and keeping our talent local.

Fremont Public Schools Bond Issue 

Bond Issue Update

Fremont, Neb. – (Apr. 20, 2022)  Fremont Public Schools continues to move forward with plans for the $123 million bond issue that was passed by citizens in September 2021. FPS meets with the BVH Design Team weekly, updating the Board of Education monthly, and updating the Board of Education Facilities Committee monthly. 

 

High School / CTE Project Update: 

The High School Renovation and CTE project schematic design has been completed and Hausmann Construction has compiled an initial pricing estimate of the costs and schedule for the various parts of the proposed project based on that submittal.  The design team and Hausmann are going through a deep analysis of the pricing of the initial design elements.  Also, requests for proposals for geotechnical services were received and TD2 has been selected to provide those required services starting this month. The design work is on schedule and will continue through October with the early site/geothermal construction work beginning after school is out.

 

Washington, Howard, and Clarmar Elementary Project Update: 

Design and coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and architectural systems is ongoing. Detail design work on casework and interior finishes is underway. Development of options for the new elementary site have been evaluated and it is being adjusted with feedback from FPS and the site owner. 

 

Milliken Park Elementary Project Update: 

Construction documents have been completed and include the final design, details, and building systems for general contractor bidding. Bids are requested to be delivered on May 5th.   Construction is expected to start in Summer 2022 and extend through next year, 2023 over multiple phases.

 

Lenihan Learning Center Project Update: 

Design development document package has been completed.  Refinement of scope, details, and building systems will continue through the finalization of the construction documents in May.  Bidding will be completed in June, with construction expected to start this summer and extend into next year, 2023.

 

Bell Field Elementary Project Update: 

The roof repair package is out to bid with bids requested by April 28. Program, scope, and budget verification work is in progress in preparation for design work to begin for the interior work in the Spring of 2022.

 

Linden Elementary Project Update: 

Site Survey proposal requests will be issued in April in preparation for the design work which is scheduled to begin in the Summer of 2022.

 

Johnson Crossing Academic Center Project Update: 

Site Survey work has been completed. Design work is scheduled to begin in the Summer of 2022.

 

Bond Funding Update:

Fremont Public Schools working with DA Davidson issued $92 million of the $123 million the voters approved last September on March 17.  Due to the favorable bond market and the confirmation of the District’s A+ bond rating the bonds were sold at a 3.31% interest rate.  The bond proceeds were forwarded to the school district on March 31.  The remaining bonds will be sold at a later date.

FPS Announces New FMS Assistant Principal

 

Fremont, Neb. – (Mar. 30, 2022) Fremont Public Schools is announcing the appointment of Jeff Manka as the Fremont Middle School Assistant Principal. Todd Niehaus, current Assistant Principal, will be moving to the Principal position at Fremont Middle School on July 1, 2022. 

 

Manka is a current Dean of Students at Fremont High School. From 2018 – 2021, he worked for North Bend Central Public Schools as a math teacher. Prior to working in North Bend, Jeff worked for Arlington Public Schools as a math teacher from 2003 – 2018. The district will begin a process immediately to seek a replacement for Jeff’s current role as a high school dean.

 

Manka was born and raised in Fremont and attended Fremont High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Wayne State and his Administration Degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. Jeff has three children that attend Fremont Public Schools and his wife (Lisa) is a teacher at Linden Elementary. 

 

“Jeff has a passion for Fremont Public Schools and the community of Fremont that is very evident.  He believes in the power of building relationships with students and has a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of our students,” stated Todd Niehaus, current Middle School Assistant Principal.

Fremont Public Schools Reporting COVID-19 Updates 

Fremont, Neb. – (Mar. 25, 2022) Fremont Public Schools released information today related to:

 

  1. The number of students and staff absent due to testing positive for COVID-19.  
  2. The number of students and staff in quarantine due to close contact exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
  3. Community testing and vaccine availability.

 

The breakdown of district COVID numbers is as follows:

 

Number of Students not in school today due to Positive COVID-19 Test: 0

Number of Students not in school today due to quarantine for exposure: 2

Total number of students absent today for any illness: 122

Fremont Public Schools Bond Issue 

Bond Issue Update

 

Fremont, Neb. – (Mar. 24, 2022)  Fremont Public Schools continues to move forward with plans for the $123 million bond issue that was passed by citizens in September 2021. FPS meets with the BVH Design Team weekly, updating the Board of Education monthly, and updating the Board of Education Facilities Committee monthly. 

 

High School / CTE Project Update:

The schematic design submittals for both the High School Renovation and CTE project has been completed and Hausmann Construction is currently pulling together initial pricing estimate costs for the proposed work. The initial test wells for the proposed geothermal system have been drilled at the High School campus and are currently being analyzed.  Also, a request for proposals for geotechnical services has been sent out with that work anticipated to start late March/Early April.   Meetings and discussions with staff will continue to take place during the design development phase through June. The design work is on schedule and will continue through October with the early site construction beginning once school is out in May 2022.

 

Washington, Howard, and Clarmar Elementary Project Update:

Design and coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and architectural systems is ongoing. Further work under development is occurring related to the exterior design and key interior spaces such as commons and the media center. Development of options for the new Clarmar site have been evaluated and it is being adjusted with feedback from FPS and the site owner. 

 

Milliken Park Elementary Project Update:

The Design Development document package has been completed with input from FPS representatives, and the next round of budget confirmation is currently in process. The initial test wells for the proposed geothermal system have been drilled at Milliken Park and are currently being analyzed. Refinement of scope, details, and building systems continues through finalization of the Construction Document package. Design work will continue in preparation for bidding in the Spring of 2022. 

 

Lenihan Learning Center Project Update:

Design Development document package is being finalized along with budget and scope confirmation.  Refinement of scope, details, and building systems will continue through finalization of the Construction Document package. Design work will continue in preparation for bidding in the Spring 2022.

 

Bell Field Elementary Project Update:

The Design Team and FPS are working on a bid package to repair roof areas that have been leaking. The roof repair package will go out to bid this spring. Program, scope and budget verification work is in progress in preparation for design work to begin for the interior work in the Spring 2022.

 

Linden Elementary Project Update:

Site Survey proposal requests will be issued in March in preparation for the design work which is scheduled to begin in Spring/Summer 2022.

 

Johnson Crossing Academic Center Project Update:

Site Survey work has been completed. Design work is scheduled to begin in Spring/Summer 2022.

 

Bond Funding Update:

Fremont Public Schools working with DA Davidson issued $92 million of the $123 million the voters approved last September on March 17.  Due to the favorable bond market and the confirmation of the District’s A+ bond rating the bonds were sold at a 3.31% interest rate.  The bond proceeds will be forwarded to the school district on March 31.  The remaining bonds will be sold at a later date.

 

“We continue to move forward with our bond planning process. We are excited to begin work this summer when school is out,” stated superintendent Mark Shepard. “Taking advantage of the favorable bond market was key in being able to accomplish the projects outlined when the voters gave their approval last fall,” Shepard concluded..
