Fremont Entities Closing to Mitigate Spread of COVID-19

Fremont Public Schools, Midland University, Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools, Trinity Lutheran School, Metropolitan Community College, Fremont Family YMCA, City of Fremont & Dodge County

Fremont, Neb. – (Mar. 16, 2020) Fremont Public Schools, Midland University, Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools, Trinity Lutheran School, Metropolitan Community College, Fremont Family YMCA, City of Fremont & Dodge County and Three Rivers Public Health Department met this morning to discuss the local response to COVID-19.

The following are recommendations from Three Rivers Public Health and the CDC:

  • It is recommended to avoid group gatherings and events of 10 people or more.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Please continue to practice good hygiene habits such as washing your hands and coughing into your elbow.
  • Make sure you are disinfecting and cleaning facilities.
  • Practice social distancing (this is a strategy to limit the spread of COVID-19. This is a conscious effort to reduce contact between people to slow down the spread of the virus).
  • Personal responsibility (this is where you are responsible for possibly infecting others based on your actions).

Religious organizations are also encouraged to follow the CDC’s guidelines.

Fremont Public Schools, Midland University, Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools, Trinity Lutheran School, Metropolitan Community College, Fremont Family YMCA, City of Fremont & Dodge County announced today that through guidance by Three Rivers Public Health and the Center for Disease Control, the following entities are closed or responding by reducing activities out of an abundance of caution. This is a preventative measure to mitigate, suppress and delay the spread of COVID-19.

Fremont Public Schools

Fremont Public Schools will be closed effective immediately for an indefinite period of time.

  • The following activities will be canceled or postponed, with details regarding these events forthcoming.
    • Fremont High School Musical postponed indefinitely
    • All athletic and extracurricular activities and practices are on hold indefinitely
      • NSAA has suspended all practices and events through March 30
    • Fremont Public Schools facilities will be closed for all outside use indefinitely

  • Plans for continuous education and feeding free/reduced eligible students are being developed and will be communicated when available.

Midland University

Midland University will teach all classes on-line until further notice at both the Fremont and Omaha locations. Additional details will be sent to all students, faculty, and staff via internal email correspondence.

  • All spring extracurricular activities are canceled.
  • Residence halls and the dining hall will remain open.

Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools

Archbishop Bergan Catholic Schools, including the Bergan Elementary & Bergan Middle/High Schools will be closed effective immediately for an indefinite period of time.  Bergan Early Childhood Education Center WILL REMAIN OPEN for Day Care services for families until further notice.

  • New information will be posted via School Beacon, Sycamore School Information System & www.berganknights.org
  • The following activities will be canceled or postponed.
    • All Extracurricular activities contests and practices are on hold
    • Bergan facilities will be closed for outside use
    • ShamRock Dinner scheduled for Saturday 3/21 is canceled

Trinity Lutheran Schools

Trinity Lutheran Schools will be closed effective immediately for an indefinite period of time. Trinity’s Early Childhood Center WILL REMAIN OPEN until further notice.

  • The following activities will be canceled or postponed.
    • All athletic practices and games/meets are on hold
    • K-3 musical postponed
    • The school auction on March 28th will not occur as planned. There is a possibility of an online version of the auction. Further details will be communicated.
    • Trinity families will receive further instruction in regard to how learning at home will take place as it becomes available. Staff is meeting today to plan and proceed.

Metropolitan Community College

  • Metropolitan Community College is moving credit classes to e-learning and alternate delivery methods beginning Wednesday, March 18, which will last through the end of the spring quarter. MCC student tools and resources, including bookstores at area campuses, will remain open. Noncredit classes will vary. Participants in noncredit courses are encouraged to watch their email for potential cancelation notices. MCC noncredit classes have been canceled through at least March 31.

Fremont Family YMCA

The Fremont Family YMCA will remain open:

  • All classes have been canceled, including group fitness classes, swim team, gymnastics, tennis and swim lessons. Youth sports will be suspended until further notice. All activities at the Sidner Ice Arena will be suspended until further notice. The Alex Lamme Fun Run and Daddy-Daughter Prom have been postponed.
  • Childcare and Fun Days will still be provided (if youth are sick, they must remain at home). Kidz Zone child watch will be suspended until further notice.
  • The Y is only open to YMCA members. No day passes will be sold and no guest passes will be accepted. The Sidner Ice Arena and Dillon Family Aquatics Center doors will be locked. The pool will be open, however, members must enter through the YMCA main doors or Wellness Center entrance.
  • Please check the YMCA website at fremontfamilyymca.org and/or the Fremont Family YMCA Facebook page for up-to-date information, as situations can change quickly.

City of Fremont

  • The Keene Memorial Library is closed until further notice.
  • The Fremont Friendship Center is closed until further notice.

The quarantine period for COVID-19 is 14 days. Please self-evaluate for symptoms which include a fever of 100.4 or above, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. A fever is defined as 100.4 degrees or higher. If you develop symptoms, please contact Three Rivers Public Health Department at 402-727-5396. “If you have COVID-19 symptoms, or develop symptoms, contact your health care provider and tell them how you are feeling. Please tell them about any potential exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19. We ask that you call ahead before you go to the doctor’s office or an emergency room,” said Three Rivers Public Health Department, Executive Director, Terra Uhing. Evidence to date suggests that this virus doesn’t stay in the environment for an extended period of time.

Metropolitan Community College
